Site Offers Wide Range of Technology News Topics

Technology news these days encompasses everything from security alerts to educational technology innovations to file- sharing lawsuits and campus

initiatives. Keeping up is now easier with the new TechNews Web site produced by Information and Educational Technology (IET).

New headlines appear on the front page of TechNews several times a week, updating readers on the latest technology news from a variety of sources. IET’s publications and Web sites are the source of many headlines, but links to articles from national publications such as the Chronicle of Higher Education and Wired Magazine are often featured. “In the past,

Upon visiting TechNews, readers will find headlines accompanied by abstracts of each news item. For readers who want to read beyond the abstracts, links to full versions of the items are also provided. The site even offers the option to email your favorite articles to others.

Headlines are organized into categories such as Viruses and Security, UCD Administrative Computing, Educational Technology, Infrastructure and General Technology. You can also search for an archived story based on a keyword, category or date by using the advanced search feature. “After a summer full of computer worms and viruses along with the public’s growing interest in technology news, we looked for new ways of providing technology information to a large number of people in a timely manner,” says Ashton.

Readers can subscribe to receive news updates via a weekly email featuring the latest headlines and direct links to the online stories. To subscribe to TechNews, visit the Web site and then click “Subscribe to TechNews” or visit technews.ucdavis.edu/subscribe.cfm.
