Summer Changes in the Campus Computer Rooms

This summer, the folks in Lab Management will be busy upgrading many of the campus computer rooms. This year's upgrades are part of an annual effort to ensure the rooms are meeting the needs of the students and faculty who use them. These changes include everything from new paint in a few rooms to computer upgrades in others, and are scheduled to be ready by the beginning of fall quarter. The following is a breakdown of the scheduled changes.

Open Access Computer Rooms

177 Memorial Union (The Station)
  • Dell Optiplex GXa desktop PCs upgraded to Dell Optiplex GX150 minitower PCs
  • PowerMac 6500 series Macs upgraded to G3 iMacs
  • Change the ratio of PC to Mac from 19/15 to 24/10
301B Surge IV
  • PowerMac 6500 series Macs upgraded to G3 iMacs
307 Surge IV
  • PowerMac 6500 series Macs upgraded to G3 iMacs

TB 114
  • PCs replaced with Dell desktop PCs from The Station

Computer Classrooms

301A Surge IV
  • New paint
  • Upgraded electrical and alarm systems
  • New room layout
  • Split lighting: the room will have two zones to ease simultaneous notetaking and projections

1131 Meyer
  • New furniture
  • New wiring
  • New paint
  • New drop lighting to ease simultaneous notetaking and projections
  • Dell Optiplex GXa desktop PCs upgraded to Dell Optiplex GX150 minitower PCs

Olson (rooms 1, 21, 27,241, 247)
  • Smart Panels and Sharp XG-P10 projectors installed.
247 Olson
  • Replace PowerBook G3 Series with iBook.


Open Access Computer Rooms

1102 Hart (Media Distribution Lab)
  • G3 Macs upgraded to G4 towers
  • Upgraded scanners (now with Firewire ports)

1154 Meyer (New Media Lab)
  • Dell Optiplex GXa towers upgraded to Dell Optiplex GX150 minitower PCs

With so many upgrades taking place, many of the computer rooms will be closed over the summer, however, many will remain open.

The following computer rooms will be open for student and/or class use: Olson 1, 21, 27; 177 Memorial Union (The Station); 1154 Meyer (New Media Lab); 1101 (Media Distribution Lab) and 1102 Hart. For hours, locations, and availability go to http://lm.ucdavis.edu/rooms/.
