Q. How do I know if I need the proxy server service?
Q. What do I need to use the Library proxy server service? You need a valid Kerberos password and LoginID. To test your LoginID and password to see if they are valid, go to the Mothra Services Menu and select the appropriate options from this menu. Q. Where do I get a Kerberos password and LoginID? To obtain a LoginID and password, go to "Obtaining a UCD LoginID and Kerberos Password." Q. Who do I contact if I'm having problems using the proxy server service? Use the online form at the Proxy Server Problem Report page to contact a Reference Librarian, or talk to one in person at the Information and References Desks located throughout the library. Q. Is there a list of electronic resources I cannot access through the proxy server service? Yes. This short list is updated on the Library's Web site. Q. I currently have a Melvyl password. How does the proxy server service affect my password? Your password gives you access about 20 databases through the California Digital Library database where Melvyl resides. Now, the proxy server service gives you much broader access to electronic journals and databases accessible off the main library site. Your password will only continue to be useful if you use the Melvyl User Profile to save searches or the Update service to receive updates when new library materials are acquired in your specified subject area.
