UC Davis Hosts IT Security Symposium, June 18-19
UC Davis, in partnership with the University of California Office
of the President, will host an IT Security Symposium. Developed
for system administrators and other technical professionals from
any of the ten UC campuses, the symposium includes more than 30
presentations, hands-on labs, and keynote speeches from leaders
in information security.
Highlights
- Keynote speaker John Vincent, Chief of the Criminal Division
of the US Attorney’s Office, Eastern District of California,
and former Interim US Attorney for the Eastern District of California
will speak on the leading trends and developments relating to
Internet fraud and how law
enforcement is combating the problem.
- Keynote speaker Dr. Shane Shook, Manager of KPMG Risk and
Advisory Services (RAS), will explore regulatory compliance for
privacy and security a timely subject as higher education responds
to a growing number of consumer protection regulations.

A special management track for campus non-technical staff
who manage technical employees. Lectures include a course on
Managing IT Security, A Manager's Guide to Security, and What
Hackers Can Find Out About You.
- Hands-on labs including courses on using security assessment
tools in Windows and UNIX and Windows security classes taught
by information security industry-recognized authors Phil Cox
and Matt Bishop.
- Lectures and presentations from several UC campuses covering
topics such as firewalls, campus distributed authentication,
PKI and VPN.
- Presentations and support from established vendors of security
hardware and software, including Trend Micro, Sygate, Symantec,
SonicWALL, Enterasys, Computer Associates and Microsoft.
