Need Time and Space? MyUCDavis May Be Your Oasis
by Julie Adcox

We know that it takes time for faculty, staff, and students alike to get back into the swing of things after the dog days of summer. Especially for those of you who have been away from campus this summer, it might seem like millennia since MyUCDavis achieved mission critical status, placing it among a select few major campus computing systems. To remedy the common summer-induced memory lapse, and to help you get back in the loop fast, let us reintroduce you to MyUCDavis, your all-in-one, time-saving and space-saving course management tool.

What is MyUCDavis?
MyUCDavis is the Web portal created primarily for UC Davis faculty and students that provides immediate access to a range of online campus academic services and resources, including:
  • a growing number of course management tools
  • student information system
  • News sources
  • Library services
  • Email

Course Management Tools Catch Your Eye?
We knew they would. Among the veteran course management tools available on MyUCDavis is the easy-to-use template that lets you build and maintain course Web sites even if you do not know HTML. You can manage your courses more efficiently by posting syllabi and assignments for students, and accessing your class rosters. With a few clicks of the mouse, you can create class email lists and chat rooms, and now you will also be able to upload multiple files at once to your site.

Summer Enhancements
In addition to updated access to course rosters, MyUCDavis will soon include some enhancements:
  • E-gradebook, which will let you track and submit grades online.
  • Self quiz/test builder that will aid in the creation of multiple types of quizzes and tests and allows you to select from a variety of scoring options.

Still More Tools
In addition to new course management tools, MyUCDavis offers a variety of time-saving and space-saving tools, with more tools in the works. For instance, those who manage grants will now find "My Contract and Grants," which provides quick access to your research contracts and grants account information. MySpace will provide 55 mb of file storage space for each MyUCDavis user and enables file-sharing.
