Year 2000 Problem

Winter Quarter Series

Whether you've heard about the Year 2000 Problem or not, you will benefit from the series of presentations offered this Winter quarter. The goal of the series is to identify Year 2000 issues and possible solutions, and to provide a forum for discussion. It is a unique opportunity to ask questions, learn about the various ways in which the Year 2000 Problem will affect us, and share the results of compliance efforts.

Introduction to the Y2K Problem
Get a general overview of the Year 2000 problem, find out how you might be affected by it, and discuss strategies for dealing with it.
    January 27, 1:30-2:30 p.m.

PC Hardware: CMOS, BIOS and Operating System
Find out how to check your computer for Year 2000 compliance.
    February 3, 1:30-2:30 p.m.

PC Software: Vendor-Specific Applications
Learn about resources available for determining software compliance.
    February 10, 1:30-2:30 p.m.

Databases: Oracle, Access, and FileMaker Pro
Explore the special Year 2000 challenges posed by these three database applications and what vendors are doing to address the problem.
    February 17, 1:30-2:30 p.m.

Macintosh
Find out how the Mac will be affected and what applications might be problematic.
    February 24, 1:30-2:30 p.m.

Networks: WANs, LANs, Hubs, Routers, and Switches
    March 3, 1:30-2:30 p.m.

Networks: Server Operating Systems - NT, Netware, and LAN Manager
    March 10, 1:30-2:30 p.m.

UNIX
    March 17, 1:30-2:30 p.m.

All presentations will be held at the Center for Advanced Information Technology (CAIT), First Floor, Shields Library.
