Research Park Joins Main Phone System

by Matthew Matuszak

The telephone and voice mail services used by more than 600 employees at the campus' four Research Park buildings will be completely integrated into the main UC Davis telephone and voice mail systems on April 25. The change involves creating approximately 300 new voice mail accounts. 630 telephone lines will be transferred from the old telephone switch at Research Park to a new, Year 2000 compliant machine that can be easily reprogrammed for the May 8 conversion to the 530 area code.

Twelve departments at the Research Park facility will benefit from the conversion, including University Extension, Accounting and Financial Services, Purchasing, the Center for Neurosciences, and the Medical School's Neurosciences Department. The change will remain virtually invisible to most campus departments, who can already call Research Park by dialing a five-digit number. Research Park callers can dial five digits to reach campus numbers, but following the conversion to the new systems on April 25, they will also be able to access their voice mail by dialing 2-8629.

If you work at Research Park and have any questions about the conversion to the new telephone and voice mail system, contact your departmental Area Telephone Representative or Management Service Officer.
